Roll Bar Construction - It's not that hard

In response to several teams who have been unsure how to construct a round or curved roll bar, here is a video which demonstrates a simple yet effective technique:

As you can see the technique involves firstly constructing a simple wooden or MDF 'buck' in the desired shape of the roll bar. This can be, as the video showed, then covered top and bottom by a larger version in order to trap the material in a slot, not allowing it to slide out of the slot whilst being bent. However, experience from a number of teams has been these extra larger parts are not always necessary.

Before bending the tube one end is trapped and then it is a simple task to simply push the material around until it conforms to the shape of the buck.

Bucks have been laser cut and cut by hand - either method has proved effective.

Hopefully this will assist those teams still unsure on how to achieve a smoothly rounded rollbar with no kinks or ripples, especially if using aluminium. As always, should you require more information please feel free to contact us and we will assist any way we can.
