March V2

G'day all,

A combination of a busy schedule and illness have meant that the details for our March event have had to wait until now - apologies for that!

For the second year in a row the Committee decided to hold a secondary event in March. This has been done to allow teams to roll out their old cars and give their students, often new to the eV Challenge, an opportunity to see what the event is all about.

After only 12 cars made the start of the 2017 March event 2018 saw 18 vehicles enter across all three competition classes.

We also did something a little different with the track. Unlike all previous editions of the eV Challenge held at the Hurricane Go Kart Club track this time around we held the event in an anti-clockwise direction. This meant the cars were downhill down the main straight, seeing top speeds of almost 50km/h being reached.

All three classes were run at the one time, and whilst no new cars were present at this event, we did see several new teams come along, albeit in cars from other schools. All Saints College, Sevenoaks Senior College, and the emerging team from Helena College were all welcome additions to the eV Challenge competition family.

The event itself was a closely run affair, with small issues afflicting the reigning Overall Champion car "Sir Jackie", this time being driven in Class B by students from Comet Bay College, resulting in it finishing third overall and second in Class B. Car #3 from Guildford Grammar led for the majority of the event, only to be overhauled on the final lap of the event. The team did still claim Class B honors, however the Overall winner and Class C Champion was Marley Racing in their bright red #6 "Road Rage". Class A was won by Melville SHS's bright green "Speedy".

Overall it was a great event, enjoyed by all, and once again we have seen the standard of vehicles steadily improve year on year.

Thank you again to our hardworking committee, our fantastic volunteers, and the teachers and team managers without whom the teams simply would not function.

The 2018 'main event' is scheduled for October 27th, again at Hurricane, and we look forward to a bigger field in that event.

As always a full photo gallery is available on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/evchallengewa and we look forwards to our next big event!

Cheers
